Artist Bio

Nicky P. Rothman is a senior, untrained painter. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Wilson College. Her interest in art originally developed when she realized art history touched upon so many different disciplines: history, economics, anthropology, to name a few. All this through the study of beautiful paintings and objects at a certain moment in time. She is intrigued by the endlessly fascinating trajectory of art history. Nicky came to art history because of its wide-reaching scope, but she stayed for the art. In her own era, she continues to ask, What are artists up to? What are they painting? The answers to these questions are a source of delight, wonder, and curiosity to her. Now she is inspired to paint and join those painters, acclaimed or not, who have a desire to put paint to canvas. It took many years, busy as she was with children, caring for parents, a career as a health administrator, volunteering for the former Baltimore Opera Company, and a stint in AmeriCorps, to realize she might try to do what she always wanted to do, and that is to put paint to canvas.
