Artist Bio
Born 1950 in Reno, Nevada. Lived in Richland, Washington 1952-1958 then moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico. Finished high school in 1968 enrolled at Brigham Young University that fall and graduated in 1973 with a BFA in ceramics but I also worked extensively in printmaking, sculpture, and painting.
Worked in an art bronze foundry from 1973 to 1986, where I learned all the processes of casting, welding, and finishing bronze sculpture. A friend owned the business and together we built it to 40 employees which I managed. We also delved into metal fabrication and casting letters.
I then worked in a sign shop in Orem, Utah, where I continued metal fabrication. Left there to pursue my art career as I had made contact with an interior designer who worked in the Palm Desert cities. He commissioned many sculptures and large-scale pastel paintings on metal panels.
I had worked as a design consultant in a graphic design firm, specializing in sign design that my partner operates. I continue with that still.
Along the way, I built a family and a house or two. I like knowing how things work and how to build things. Two of my sons now work for a building contractor using the metal fabrication skills I taught them.
I also completed several public art commissions for Salt Lake City, a large medical complex in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the State of Utah. I then found a developer client who built class-A office buildings here in Salt Lake County and Park City, Utah.
These went into several buildings and involved floor design and focal stone and metal sculptures. One was a large wall installation of textured copper and a painted mural. I now primarily paint on canvas and like working on a large scale.
