Artist Bio

Quinn Ellis is a contemporary oil painter whose large-scale works explore light, place, and emotion through imagined landscapes. Originally from Minnesota, Quinn spent nearly a decade in Los Angeles before relocating to New York City, where he currently lives and paints.

Working primarily in oil on canvas, Quinn creates immersive scenes that balance bold architectural forms with sweeping skies and layered terrain. His paintings are not exact depictions of real places but rather constructed environments—spaces where memory, imagination, and mood intersect. Through expressive skies, rich textures, and cinematic compositions, Quinn’s work captures a sense of emotional geography, inviting viewers into a moment suspended between stillness and movement.

Influenced by the vast open spaces of the Midwest, the saturated light of California, and the vertical energy of New York, Quinn’s paintings reflect a lifelong fascination with how place shapes feeling. Many of his pieces begin with a simple prompt—a time of day, a quality of light, or a sense of anticipation—and evolve into full, atmospheric worlds.

Quinn’s work often centers around themes of solitude, wonder, and potential. Whether it's the quiet awe of early morning or the vibrant openness of a summer day, his paintings celebrate the in-between moments that feel both grounded and transcendent.

His most recent body of work explores the emotional architecture of summer—what it means to look forward, to pause, and to reflect under the weight of sunlight. These paintings, like much of his work, serve as portals: they ask the viewer not just to look, but to step inside.
