PENCIL AND PAPER

Michael is a self-taught artist who works only in pencil and paper, the basics of all art. Michael started sketching 12 years ago, he favors portraits and animals, with a passion to capture the character and personality of the person or animal. Michael has always appreciated the absence of color, starting with an earlier venture into black-and-white photography and a love for the work of Ansel Adams.

Although the color is beautiful it can also be distracting, Michael prefers that viewer use their imagination if they find a need for color, with black and white the focus of the viewer is more on the details, skill, and the image being viewed.

Michael’s work has been accepted at many art competitions including, Haggin Museum Stockton, Fresno Art Council, Pence Gallery, Davis and Sacramento Art Center, Sacramento.
