Artist Bio

Lumi Liu is a New York–based designer and visual artist whose work explores the intersection of bio art, medical visualization, and abstract expression. Drawing from a long-term background in medical and scientific visualization, Lumi has developed a deep fascination with the hidden structures of the human body, particularly microscopic cellular systems and the unseen architectures that shape life beneath the surface.

Inspired by biological forms, neural networks, cellular textures, and organic patterns found in nature, Lumi transforms scientific observation into emotionally driven visual language. Rather than presenting the body through a purely clinical lens, the work reinterprets microscopic life as poetic and sensory experiences, inviting viewers to reconsider the relationship between consciousness, materiality, and the living world.

Water plays a central role in Lumi’s creative process. Used as both a medium and a symbolic connection to nature, fluid movement and organic diffusion become essential elements in each composition. Through layered pigments and flowing forms, the work reflects the diversity, fragility, and constant transformation of life itself.

Lumi’s practice seeks to bridge science and emotion, turning microscopic structures into immersive abstract environments that evoke curiosity and contemplation about the invisible systems within living beings.
