Artist Bio
Lael Salaets has been drawing since early childhood.
He enlisted in the US Marines and was stationed at Okinawa, Japan. There, he studied Eastern philosophy, art, and culture. Wabi-sabi, the idea that nothing is perfect, finished, or permanent, influenced much of his pencil work.
After his deployment to Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, drawing became a meditative process to cope with PTSD. He studied fine art and design at the University of Oregon and Lane Community College, where he received a scholarship and an AAS in graphic design.
He resides in Eugene and is a member of the Maude Kerns Art Center and the Oregon Society of Artists based in Portland.
