Artist Bio

New to the art world and still trying to break in. I have had the misfortune of taking up painting after retiring as a cardiologist for 43 years. It coincided with the peak of COVID-19. Bad timing, to say the least. Rejected from every art show I have applied to until now. I want to thank the HMVC Gallery New York for giving me this opportunity.

Born and raised on Long Island, my initial artistic endeavors were in photography. With a single lens reflex camera, a black and white bulk loader for film, and a dark room in my high school. With both a quick and creative mind and some great advice from an art teacher, I developed a keen eye. His advice was when take a photograph, block out what you are trying to capture, and look at everything else critically in the frame, as it will be in your photo. Thought I might want to pursue a career in photography, but after visiting a professional photographer in NYC decided against it. It was not for me.

Now I paint acrylic on canvas, watercolor on paper. I never know what the end result is going to be when I sit down to paint. I just let it flow. My studio is a small den in my home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where I live with my wife of 43 years. I have not let the slow start of my artistic journey deter me. I paint for the pure joy of creating. Ever hopeful for that break that will lead me to the next level. My works include scenic landscapes and abstract images, all acrylic on canvas. My watercolor collection is almost entirely of portraits of women, though a few men are mixed in, too.

Have made recent strides, having my works shown in a few local galleries, restaurants, and businesses.
