Artist Bio

Lis has had a life-long love affair with portraiture. It is the only art she ever wanted to do. She attended the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC, as well as the American University, Montgomery College, where she sought out the realist teachers in a 70s/80s world of Expressionists who had been taught by the 60s abstract artists. She was introduced to a legacy of Master's methods by the dean of painting, Willliam Newman. She also earned a Cosmetology license and was a model and makeup artist, which lends another aspect to her love of portraying faces. As a painter at heart, Lis quickly earned CPX signature status with CPSA for her mixed media portraits. Her award-winning work has been juried into numerous national exhibitions. Among many publications, she also has a chapter in “Draw Portraits in Colored Pencils” published by Ann Kullberg. She is on faculty at the prestigious Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo, MD, and shows her work at the Eastside Artists’ Gallery in Frederick, MD.
