Richard Mittelstadt

Artist Bio

Since childhood, Richard was always interested in mark-making, especially mechanical drawing. With such a strong mechanical aptitude, Richard envisioned his future in architecture. That changed in college when he was encouraged by his older sister to take a few art courses.

After changing his major, he graduated with a BS degree in Art Education and a Master's Degree in Studio Art. During his 38 years in teaching middle and high school art education, Richard created and sold watercolor paintings in numerous outside art and craft fairs. After retiring from teaching, he switched his painting medium to acrylics. In the past 17 years, Richard has had many solo indoor-venue and gallery exhibitions. In addition, his acrylic paintings have been accepted into many juried group exhibitions and have won numerous awards for his acrylic paintings.

For many years during and after his teaching career and while still finding time to paint, Richard had volunteered his time as treasurer for four non-profit art organizations. Nowadays, Richard focuses on painting, camping trips, and yard/garden work.
