Julie Scheyer

Artist Bio

Julie Scheyer is a multidisciplinary artist whose work investigates the invisible systems that shape our lives—biological, technological, and psychological.

With a background in chemical engineering, she sculpts in epoxy resin using advanced techniques rarely possible without laboratory training.

Later at Intel Corporation, she observed how security systems and corporate infrastructure shape behavior. She was awarded a U.S. patent during her tenure.

These institutions planted the foundation for her artistic practice. The constant surveillance of always being watched, now everywhere in our daily lives, is a concern when we consider who is watching whom.

Now based in Maui and Hood River, she is also a competitive wing surfer, completing open-ocean crossings between Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Oahu. Even on the sea—under satellites and drones—she finds rare solace in the absence of human eyes.

Upcoming exhibition: Answer As Question, Columbia City Gallery’s 17th Annual Juried Exhibition—curated in partnership with the Seattle Art Museum. Recent exhibitions include: Best of the Gorge 2025 (Columbia Center for the Arts), Boundless Green – 2025 (Exhibizone), Boundless Blues & Out Where-2025 (Naturalist Gallery of Contemporary Art), Eye on All-2025 (Gallerium), Flowing Flower-2025 (Las Lagunas Art Gallery)
