Jeanne Garrett
Artist Bio
Jeanne Garrett, a Midwest-based photographer, did not take a conventional path to photography. She studied photography at Barat College and, following a corporate career in communications, renewed her passion for the medium and devoted her creative life to personal photographic projects. Garrett's deep concern for the environment has become a central theme in her work. Her 2026 solo exhibition, The Charcoal Forest, transformed the Tall Grass Gallery into a charred landscape through silk murals and imagery depicting the aftermath of prescribed burns and natural wildfires. In 2025, The Charcoal Forest was also exhibited at the College of Lake County, and future exhibits will be held at the Beloit Wisconsin Art Center and Concordia University in Illinois. Other solo exhibitions exploring the natural world include ELEMENTS: Earth, Wind, Water, Fire, presented at the Addison Center for the Arts and several other locations in Illinois. Examples of group exhibitions include: PhotoPlace Gallery, Texas Center for Contemporary Arts, and Maryland Federation of Art, plus juried and invitational exhibitions throughout the Midwest. Her photography has won numerous awards. Her image "The Stillness After" received the Grand Prize Award from the International Photography Hall of Fame in 2024. Her images have appeared in Black & White magazine, where she was a two-time merit award winner. Her photography has also been featured on the BBC, National Geographic, and Peter Greenberg, CBS Travel Commentator websites.
