Harriet Silverstein
Artist Bio
Harriet Silverstein (b. Brooklyn, N.Y.) is a painter, sculptor, and mixed media artist based in Boca Raton, Florida. Her Work explores central themes of nature as an energetic system shaped by light, movement, & perception. Harriet's expressive landscapes merge abstraction, vivid color, & dynamic mark-making to convey light, movement, & emotional atmosphere. The most recent works are created with mixed media on canvas for the sensual, tactile, and textured visual elements that characterize all of her work.
Harriet holds a B.A. with honors from Brown University, where she completed a double major in history and visual art & an M.A. with honors from the State University of New York at Albany, in painting & printmaking. While still in college, she was awarded two tuition scholarships to attend the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture, where she studied with renowned artists including Louise Nevelson & Brice Marden. Harriet was also awarded the SUNY International Post-Graduate Fellowship to France after completing her master's degree. This fellowship provided the unique opportunity to live & study in France, where she completed the French MFA in painting at L'Academie des Beaux Arts in Strasbourg, France. During this time & continuing forward, she exhibited paintings & drawings at galleries in France, Germany, & the United Kingdom.
In addition to her artistic practice, Harriet has taught at Hofstra University, Queens College, North Broward Preparatory School & in Broward County, FL Public Schools. Commissioned projects for Ci Ristorante, formerly at 101 Park Avenue, New York, in addition to law firms & institutions, gave her excellent experience in creating art for specific environments & architectural interiors. Harriet continues to embrace these commissioned creative opportunities in addition to her active exhibition schedule.
