Hyazinth Aras
Born in Vienna, Austria, studying veterinary medicine, working as a virologist and expert in laboratory diagnosis at the Federal Institute for the Control of Viral Diseases in Animals, retired in 2012. She has been drawing and painting since childhood but interrupted this passion during her professional life. After her retirement, she started self-taught again, first with pastels, and later also with watercolor, coal, and acrylic. Her main topic is animals, besides plants, and landscapes, paintings of humans are the exception. Since 2013 she participated in numerous exhibitions in Austria and other countries, physically and
digitally. Meanwhile, she received some awards for her artwork.
My parents taught me to open my eyes to the different wonders of creation and from childhood on I try to reflect these impressions in my paintings. Animals in all of their unique and rich beauty and their emotions were my main topic and will ever be. I try to give my painted animals a soal by the look of their eyes and hope it can be seen. Showing my artwork to the public is also an attempt to support the awareness of the voiceless creatures we should protect instead of abusing and destroying them.

Lael Salaets has been drawing since his earliest childhood. Since his family moved often, creativity enabled him to cope with change.
He enlisted in the US Marines and was stationed at Okinawa, Japan. There, he studied Eastern philosophy, art and culture. Wabi-sabi, the idea that nothing is perfect, finished, or permanent, influenced much of his pencil work. After his deployment to Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, drawing became a meditative process to cope with PTSD.
He studied fine art and design at the University of Oregon and Lane Community College where he received a scholarship and an AAS in graphic design.
He resides in Eugene, a member of Maude Kerns Art Center, and the Oregon Society of Artists based in Portland.
My primary medium is graphite and colored pencil. Much of my work is inspired by wabi-sabi, a philosophy that nothing is perfect, finished, or permanent. Thus, the experience of drawing is a focused, meditative process – to observe and capture subjects at a particular moment of interest.
Through the use of subtle layers, color depth, and a broad range of values, the composition emerges. I seek to achieve balance, the proportional relationship of abstract shapes into positive and negative space.
The sweep of pencil marks, and how they flow together, develops a strong framework, resulting in imagery that evokes a sense of calm and appreciation for the present, and the unfinished imperfection of reality.
I Always Choose Love
I am a self-taught artist who has been immersed in the world of art since childhood. My journey with art began with a deep fascination for the natural world, which continues to be the core inspiration for my work. I specialize in acrylic paint and watercolors, mediums that allow me to explore the delicate interplay of light and color.
My paintings are often dreamlike landscapes and impressionistic floral scenes, characterized by their soft and bright palettes. I gravitate towards shades of peaches and pinks, which infuse my work with a sense of warmth and serenity. Whether depicting the gentle curve of a petal or the vast expanse of the sea, my art aims to capture the ephemeral beauty of nature.
Through my work, I hope to evoke a sense of calm and wonder, inviting viewers to step into a world where the colors of nature are celebrated in all their soft, radiant glory.
My art is a reflection of my deep connection with nature, a bond that has been nurtured since childhood. As a self-taught artist, I have always found solace and inspiration in the natural world, where the delicate details of flowers and the vast, calming presence of the sea captivate me. These elements serve as the foundation of my creative process.
Working with acrylic paint and watercolors, I am drawn to the soft and bright hues of peaches and pinks, which have become signature tones in my work. These colors allow me to explore the gentle interplay of light and atmosphere, creating pieces that are both serene and vibrant. Through my art, I aim to offer viewers a moment of tranquility and a reminder of the beauty that exists in the world around us. My work is an invitation to pause, to breathe, and to immerse oneself in the simple yet profound elegance of nature.

It is incredible what we can produce in the digital age, and it’s fun.
In these last few years, we had so many restrictions. We could not travel overseas and sometimes not even to the next suburb. My art is my sanity. People who know me might think the word sanity does not come to mind when you look at my artwork. I kept busy during this time.
I think REBELS can come in different shapes. They can hide behind a very feminine façade or could refuse to listen to what a girl can and cannot do. Somebody is fighting for freedom and independence, and someone is protecting their castle.

As a surreal portrait artist, I use watercolor to create paintings that merge symbols and vibrant colors, inviting you into a new world filled with light and life. Through these elements, I communicate universal stories that resonate within your subconscious, connecting you with the divine and the eternal. My art offers an alternative view of the world that inspires you to explore more profound levels of consciousness and rediscover human divinity.
The female figure, central in my works, symbolizes life, maternity, creativity, resilience, and love. She represents Mother Earth, embodying love and respect for everything around us, including nature and the urban environment, which deserve our care to create a more loving and just world.
My colors convey energy and emotion, utilizing a mix of cool and warm tones to symbolize the connection between heaven and earth. They evoke emotions and reflect the human experience. The tree and the eye play crucial roles in my art, representing life, growth, clear vision, and deep understanding. The tree is a powerful metaphor for life, growth, and the connection between heaven and earth. At the same time, the eye symbolizes our window to the world and the ability to perceive truths beyond the visible.
The tree woman symbolizes Mother Earth and the female life principle. Their interconnection is life and renewal, embodying the natural world’s resilience and the human spirit.
Through my art, I aim to capture the beauty of the universe and the human experience, prompting reflection on our interaction with the environment and the importance of preserving the natural and cultural beauty surrounding us.

Izzy has also worked with students with autism, visually impaired children, and children with learning disabilities. Izzy firmly believes every child deserves a positive musical experience!
Izzy is a member of the San Antonio Music Teachers Association, and her students participate in numerous area events. Her students join her in playing at local assisted care facilities to bring joy to the residents. Izzy accepted a weeklong music composer residency in 2023 with Alta Community Enrichment, in Utah. She is working on her first piano songbook. This project prompted her to explore Texas-based en Plein air competitions to grow and develop her outdoor painting skills. She seeks out quirky, local finds to paint.

She also had three pieces featured in the 13th Annual Fredericksburg Art Guild Exhibition, Earthly Delights. “Just a Girl and Her Dogs” placed second and “Encore” received an honorable mention.
My art is a creative marrying of two or more of my passions and talents. My art began by using musical elements like the piano and surrealism to process the difficulties and achievements I had while taking piano playing from my own emotional outlet to developing through two college degrees, and ultimately a successful career.
My next creative endeavor combined the love of my nieces and my 1970 VW bus. After my niece was bullied at school, I set out to author and illustrate a children’s book for her. My bus is a beloved character in the book series that I drive to book signings, author visits, and other fun book events. I’m currently at work on my third book, on the topic of heaven- based on my own loss of friends to cancer. We met in the oncology unit while I played piano for them.
My VW bus was also a huge turning point discovering how valuable the outdoors is to my emotional and mental well-being. I also discovered the joy of en Plein air painting. By combining my art, composition interest, and pedagogical knowledge- my piano songbook is my current creative project.
I Did It
I am a doctor of internal medicine and a passionate artist. I combine my skills to bring the healing, sometimes meditative, sometimes exhilarating process of maneuvering paint on a surface to as many people as possible with my in-person Creative Ages art experience. I paint with kids battling cancer and other illnesses, and elders suffering from dementia: heavy impasto palette knife acrylic paints, drips of watercolor on paper, or luminous dye on silk. What a joy it is to help others engage in pushing paint around. The laughter contentment and pride in the process that bubbles up in them is the ultimate reward. Art transforms lives.
My mission as an artist is to develop an art experience to share with all ages; children, battling cancer, or other illnesses, older people in care, facilities, or suffering dementia. I am a physician and self-taught artist. The style of my art is tactile and dimensional. Sometimes the thick paint stands off the canvas by an inch. Or the watercolor drips, and runs in a lively expression of joy. This painting is about sharing joy.
