Artist Bio

Abigail Corman is a multidisciplinary artist working across stained glass, sculpture, metal, mixed media, and light. Her practice is rooted in a fascination with transformation and the ways familiar forms can become objects of wonder, contemplation, and reverence.

Working from her studio in Kentucky, Corman combines traditional stained-glass techniques with sculptural construction, copper foil and solder, welded armatures, mixed media, and found materials. Her work ranges from figurative and animal sculptures to intricate glass relics, bas-reliefs, jewelry, and sculptural objects.

Corman’s ongoing body of work, Devotional Objects, explores mythology, literature, symbolism, sacred and ceremonial art, historical objects, and imagined relics. She is particularly drawn to objects that appear to carry a history beyond what can immediately be seen. Through material, texture, craftsmanship, and light, she transforms recognizable subjects into objects that feel simultaneously ancient, unfamiliar, and precious.

Light is an important part of her process and visual language. Her use of stained glass allows an object to continually change depending on illumination, creating a tension between solidity and transparency, fragility and permanence. Recycled glass and discarded materials are frequently incorporated into her work, allowing materials with previous lives to become something new.

Corman’s work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, universities, juried exhibitions, and art publications. Her sculptures have appeared in exhibitions across multiple states, and her work has been featured internationally in connection with her multidisciplinary practice.

Rather than limiting herself to a single medium, Corman approaches each idea by asking what form it needs to become. Her practice moves freely between sculpture, glass, metal, wearable objects, and other materials, with the underlying goal remaining the same: to make tangible the things that cannot otherwise be held—memory, mythology, devotion, wonder, and imagination.
